Broadwater County Commissioner Meeting


COMMISSIONER MEETING March 15, 2016 Commissioner Laura Obert called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. Commissioner Franklin Slifka was also present. Public comment: Don Thompson spoke on hospital finances. Commissioner Obert read a letter from elected officials listing their choices for Commissioner in alphabetical order: Mike Delger, Nick Korthals, Lary Richtmyer and Bill Upthegrove. An email from Cory Swanson, County Attorney listed his choices: Nick Korthals, Bill Amsk, Lary Richtmyer and Larry Wright. Dan Hutching asked whoever is chosen to abide by MACo mission statement and guidelines for duties. Dave Flaskey questioned Bill Upthegrove’s involvement with the hospital. Commissioner Obert moved to appoint Lary Richtmyer as interim County Commissioner. Motion died for lack of a second. Commissioner Obert moved to appoint Nick Korthals as interim County Commissioner. Motion died for lack of a second. Commissioner Obert moved to appoint Bill Upthegrove as interim County Commissioner. Motion died for lack of a second. Commissioner Obert moved to appoint Bill Amsk as interim County Commissioner. Motion died for lack of a second. Commissioner Obert moved to appoint Larry Wright as interim County Commissioner. Motion died for lack of a second. Earl Campbell told Commissioner Slifka to “Stand your guns”. Tim Ravndal asked for deference and respect to him, as did Duane Holom. With some very spirited remarks, Philip Knaub, Doug Ellis, Linda Huth, Bob Graveley, Helen Turcotte, Bill Amsk, Dan Hutching, Don Thompson, Bill Upthegrove, Eric Crusch, Brad Campbell, Wynn Meehan, Ann Rauser, Valerie Hornsveld, Bobbi Wade, Duane Holom, Dee Gannon and Scot Dunning all urged Commissioner Slifka to make a decision. He stated he needed more time and had questions to ask each candidate “one on one”. Also in attendance were Walter Rauser, Melissa Lowery, Leonard Myers, Deputy Anderson, Jessie Underwood and Julie Lethert.
